I chose to "STOP Installation" during the Found New Hardware Wizard when prompted that the drivers had not passed Windows Logo Testing.

Product: AlphaSmart Manager, NEO

Platform: Windows

Last Updated: 7/26/2019

Issue:

I chose to "STOP Installation" during the Found New Hardware Wizard when prompted that the drivers had not passed Windows Logo Testing.

After choosing "STOP Installation", the following message appeared:

There was a problem installing this hardware:

AlphaSmart Communication Driver

An error occurred during the installation of the device:

The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner.  Contact your hardware vendor.

Reason:

For an explanation of Windows Logo Testing in relation to AlphaSmart 3000, Dana, and NEO products, please see KB #5191527.

Resolution:

If "STOP Installation" was chosen during the Found New Hardware Wizard, the driver was not properly installed, and its corresponding software will not detect the NEO.  To resolve this, the driver will need to be updated:

1)     Connect the NEO to the computer via USB.

2)     Launch the application you are using in conjunction with the NEO and minimize it.

3)     Open Device Manager on your computer by going to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware.

4)     Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers by clicking on the plus sign (+).  If already expanded, you should see the AlphaSmart Communication Driver with a yellow exclamation point on it.

5)     Right-click on the AlphaSmart Communication Driver and choose to "Update Driver"

6)     If prompted to search Windows Update, choose "No, not this time" and then click Next.

7)     On the next window, keep the recommended option to "Install the software automatically."  Click Next again.

8)     When the Windows Logo Testing warning appears, choose to "Continue Anyway."  The Hardware Wizard should finish at this point.

9)     When complete, the NEO device should now switch to indicate that it is connected, and you can resume normal use.
